Dog in the Pool FAQs
It is ok for your dog to swim in a pool a salt water and chlorine pool. It is a good idea to rinse them after they swim. You should watch for any skin or ear issues if you are swimming in a pool frequently.
How long your dog swims in a pool will depend on the purpose, fitness, and age. If your dog is doing pool therapy the sessions will be relatively short as it will be exhausting. If your dog is a healthy and fit youthful dog then swimming in the pool can be as long as your pup wants to play and swim provided they are not getting to tired and have a clear way out of the pool or place they can rest in the pool. Most dogs to not swim regularly so it is important to watch if they are getting tired which may be hard to see if they are really excited about swimming.
You should wash your dog after a swim in a pool. The chlorine and other chemicals can cause skin irritation and at the very least a rinse would be important to remove the chemicals and prevent your dog getting irritated skin.
