Holidays in November to Celebrate Dogs: Plus top ideas to enjoy them

After the fantastical doggie Halloween and the fall pumpkin patch photos, it is hard to imagine that November is so jam-packed with dog fun with several Dog Holidays in November to raise awareness of dog issues and celebrate dogs!

November Dog Holidays

November is known as a grateful month as we celebrate Thanksgiving but there are many other ways to celebrate as well and even some ways to celebrate with that same giving theme in mind.  

So . . . have fun with your dog this November and find a way to celebrate these November holidays with some tips below.  

Here are some of our favorites along with dates to note!

November month-long dog holidays

National Gratitude Month

Add a gratefulness practice to your day and throughout your day and don’t forget to include your dog!  According to Harvard Health, gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships.  Research shows what we know is that our dogs make us more happy so why not add dogs to your grateful practice this month!

National Peanut Butter Lovers Month 

Share a peanut butter treat with your pal with one of our Ways to Share Peanut Butter with Your Dog.  

National Pet Cancer Awareness Month

Take note of your pet and learn more about cancer in pets, especially for our senior dogs as cancer becomes a more prevalent health concern as dogs age Or learn about amazing cancer detecting dogs, how they are supporting people and support their mission.

National Prevent a Litter Month

Think about how you can help dogs by not only ensuring your own pet is spayed and neutered but sharing the news about the importance of spaying and neutering with our 10 facts about spaying and neutering and sharing our list of low-cost spay and neutering clinics available along with the many other ways you can support this important cause which ultimately has the largest effect for helping dogs and reducing shelter overcrowding. 

Adopt a Senior Pet Month

Important November Dog Dates and Dog Holidays

November 1 – Cook for your pet day! Find a fun recipe to share with your pet.  It can be as easy as stuffing a Kong, making treats, or special collagen-building CBD hemp dog bone broth.  

November 4 – National Day of Community Service.  Find a way that you can make a difference in a pets life see all of our ideas in our giving Chapter in Motherpuppin’ Adorable: What to do when your dog is better than everyone else’s

November 6 – Daylight savings ends.  Take advantage of the extra daylight hours in the morning to extend your dog walk and enjoy the daylight!

November 6 -National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week.  Show some love to a shelter.  Check out the amazing work of those shelters focused on the challenging and important work of saving senior dogs and providing love and kindness for the most needed in our Ultimate Guide for Senior Dog Rescues.

November 11 – Veterans Day.  Learn about the many dogs that have served in the military including  Sergeant Stubby and Sinbad, these famous dog veterans are featured in our article Famous Mutts You Need to Know.

November 13 – Human-Animal Relationship Awareness Week.  There is so much amazing research going on about the Amazing human-animal relationship.  Did you know that:

  • 84% of pet owners attest that owning a pet improves their mental health, according to the PDSA Animal Well-being (PAW) Report.
  • 76% of the surveyed respondents in research, agree that interactions between pets and humans address social isolation

November 22 – Humane Society Anniversary Day. Celebrate the wonderful contributions to pet health and enjoyment that have been provided by the Humane society by making a contribution or even sending a note of thanks.

November 23 – Thankful For My Dog Day.  Where do we start?  There are so many fabulous ways to show thanks for your dog, for senior dogs that may be a new comfy bed, soft baked treats or even an outing to one of our bucket list dog parks.  Enjoy and have a day filled with love that will show your thanks.
